My unaccounted effort to write on the web is pretty unbelievable. To be honest, I do not write much because I am simply horrible at writing. So, I am beginning an experiment to entertain the notion that I have a writer inside me and to give knowledge back to the web community.
This site will be my medium. Let me warn you outright that it will change often and sometimes dramatically, as I am never really truly satisfied with any design. Hopefully the content will do the talking and the site design will not take center stage. Content is the king, right?
Let me explain a bit about how the site is built and how it runs. It is built using HTML5, CSS3 and jQuery on the WordPress platform. All of the code was written using the Coda 2 editor and leveraged Codekit as the compiler for Compass, Zen Grids and SASS. The site utilizes the Modernizr javascript library for native implementation (backwards compatibility) and is stored in a private Git repository. All of the fonts are provided by the Google CDN font API. To check backwards compatibility I use BrowserStack (I prefer it over other services and definitely over installing virtual machines).
Drop by from time to time and check the site out. I promise to leave as much knowledge as I can. The journey begins now…

Jason, thank you so much for this. I’m an old print designer just learning web design and your website is an awesome resource. Please don’t take it down. I’ve been working on a responsive portfolio site for myself. I want to make it WordPress with a gallery that sorts and filters for my portfolio samples. For some reason I just can’t find a theme I like. And I want to be able to do this myself. I have some work done on the new design at http://www.test9.jim-online.com. I’m planning to use your articles to help me get to the next… Read more »
You are welcome. I’m glad I could help. After rereading this article, I have come to the conclusion that I need to write more again. Chuckle.
Well, I’m going to try to hook up an RSS feed to your site so I don’t miss it. Hey, I have a question for you: knowing what you know now, if you were just starting out learning a CMS and you wanted to maximize your return on investment (the time and effort it takes you to learn, etc.) would you choose WordPress or something else?
Well, WordPress is highly adopted. But if you understand the fundamentals of code, you could easily pick up another CMS (or build your own).
