Flowers

I find it humorous at this age, that I have gone my whole life without paying attention to something that’s been begging to be noticed with unique colors, shapes and sizes. Spending a lot of time outdoors, I was constantly paying attention to scenery because that is one of the best benefits. The sky, the landscape, the water, the rocks, the trees, etc. I try to get outside and touch grass as much as possible because I sit in front of a computer most of the day solving intrucate puzzles.
My girlfriend absolutely adores plants and especially flowers. I have spent so much time just walking behind her while she rattles on about a certain flower: the name, the type, when it blooms, etc. She probably doesn’t notice that I am racking my brain to remember every aspect she is pointing out, yet it makes me smile to see her so excited. It’s a knowledge base I know nothing about, and I will absolutely never remember everything, but I am trying. The best thing is seeing her face light up when she notices one.
Her mother is a Master Gardener and my girlfriend has picked up so much from her, and from just being curious, that it astounds me.
A couple of months ago we visited Garvan Woodland Gardens and I walked around like a toddler while she explained “All the things”. It was probably a small thing to her, but it felt like I was on another planet surrounded by all these pretty things I had taken for granted my entire life.
I make it a point to get her flowers randomly and I still don’t know what to tell the florist. By the way, if you are ever in need of a good florist in Central Arkansas, check out The Ivy Florist & Gift Shoppe. They definitely make my lack of knowledge show up like I knew what I was doing.
The whole point in writing this is that the next time you are around some flowers, stop and take a look. Give them a smell while you’re at it too, though I’ve found out the hard way that not all of them smell good.
